Amor Artis Chamber Orchestra
The Amor Artis Chamber Orchestra is made up entirely of elite professional instrumentalists from New York City. Under the direction of its new Music Director, Stephen Somary, the Amor Artis Chamber Orchestra has recently shifted from a period-instrument ensemble to an orchestra of modern instruments, allowing it to make use of the great improvements in instrument quality and diversity of sound that have taken place over the past 200 years. For the sensitive and highly skilled players of this ensemble, the modern instruments also provide the flexibility to perform in many different styles.
Founded in 1961, the Amor Artis Chamber Orchestra has been featured on more than 40 CDs in music of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Weill, among many others. Recent performances have included Bach's Mass in B Minor, Bach's Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 1 & 2, and Mendelssohn's Elijah.
