4:00 p.m.
Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral
Featuring
  • Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri
  • Caroline Shaw's To the Hands
  • Gregory Spears's "Agnus Dei," from Requiem
  • Zachary Wadsworth, world premiere

Amor Artis and a Baroque string ensemble will perform cantatas from Membra Jesu Nostri, a 17th-century setting of reflective medieval poetry. In between the cantatas, you can hear modern-day responses to this work: Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s To The Hands, which highlights the theme of refuge in Buxtehude’s third cantata with an innovative original libretto and Shaw’s one-of-a-kind musical language; a world premiere of a piece commissioned for this concert by Zachary Wadsworth; and a new arrangement of the Agnus Dei from Gregory Spears’s Requiem.
